Hi, I’m Carlos.

Welcome to MCI Homes

This website documents my journey through property renovation, refurbishment and development, sharing the lessons, challenges and successes I’ve experienced along the way.

What started as a desire to transform my own property quickly became a passion for identifying potential, creating value and improving my own homw through thoughtful renovation and hands-on project delivery. My long-term ambition is to build on this experience through future renovation and development projects, continually expanding both my knowledge and property portfolio.
 

My first major project involved the complete renovation of a residential property, where I not only managed the overall project but also personally carried out approximately 80% of the renovation work myself. From demolition, preparation and decorating through to fitting, finishing and countless problem-solving tasks in between, the project provided invaluable practical experience alongside project management responsibilities.

The renovation required careful planning, budgeting, coordination of specialist trades where required, and the flexibility to adapt when unexpected challenges arose. By taking such a hands-on approach, I developed a deeper understanding of the renovation process, construction methods, cost control and the realities of delivering a successful project from start to finish.

Rather than simply showcasing before-and-after photographs, I wanted this website to provide a transparent record of the journey. Here you’ll find project case studies, renovation lessons, cost insights, design decisions and practical experiences that may help others undertaking similar projects.

As my experience grows, so will this portfolio. Current and future projects include loft and utility room conversions, alongside further property improvement and development opportunities.

Why I Created This Website

The purpose of MCI Homes is twofold.

Firstly, it serves as a portfolio of projects completed, documenting the planning, execution and outcomes of each renovation.

Secondly, it acts as a platform to share real-world experiences. Property renovation is often presented through polished finished photographs, but the greatest learning comes from the challenges, setbacks, decisions and solutions encountered throughout the process.

Through this website, I hope to provide a realistic insight into what goes into transforming a property while creating a useful resource for others interested in renovation and development.

Looking Ahead

This renovation represents the foundation of what I hope will be a long-term journey within property renovation and development.

Alongside ongoing improvements to my current property, including planned loft and utility room conversions, my goal is to take on future renovation projects where I can continue to apply and develop the skills I’ve gained through hands-on experience.

Having personally completed approximately 80% of the work on my first major renovation project, I have developed a genuine appreciation for both the practical and project management aspects of property improvement. Each project presents new challenges, opportunities to create value, and lessons that can be carried forward into future developments.
